Dancing for breast cancer prevention with Liz Nania
MASSACHUSETTS BREAST CANCER COALITION'S 21st ANNUAL LESBIANS & FRIENDS DANCE OCTOBER 20th

On Saturday, October 20, 2018, members of the LGBTQ+ community will come together for the 21st annual Lesbians and Friends Dance: A Party for Prevention at the Brookline-Boston Holiday Inn at 1200 Beacon Street in Brookline, MA. Kicking off the event longtime supporter, Liz Nania of Out to Dance, will lead a free one-hour Merengue dance workshop for all interested participants from 7:00 to 8:00 pm. Award-winning dance instructor, Liz Nania, has been teaching thousands to dance for over twenty-five years. Her expertise and enthusiasm give even the shyest beginners the confidence to dance with new-found style and grace. Liz has provided world-class dance instruction to local schools, community groups, companies, and various dance events. Nania says, “I am thrilled to be part of this spectacularly fun dance event to raise funds for one of my favorite organizations, Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC). MBCC is the only group I know of that does the real and hard work of promoting breast cancer prevention and supporting research that investigates the link between breast cancer and the environment.”Cheryl Osimo, Executive Director for Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition, says, “We are so fortunate to have such tremendous support from Liz Nania and Out to Dance. It is supporters like Liz who make our work successful by demanding greater protection of our loved one’s future health in an effort to stop breast cancer before it starts. MBCC is very thankful that she has provided free dance lessons over the years in support of the Party for Prevention LGBTQ+ dance. By sharing her talent and generosity, Liz has allowed MBCC to have continued success with this event for the LGBTQ+ community for the last 21 years!"The event features the always crowd-pleasing DJ Shelly Cullen, complimentary hors d’oeuvres, a cash bar, and a silent auction with items donated from LGBTQ+-friendly businesses across New England. Members of the LGBTQ+ community and allies are invited to purchase tickets in advance for $45 ($20 student price) online at www.mbcc.org or by calling 617-376-MBCC (6222). Tickets are also available at the door on the evening of the dance for $50 ($25 student price). In Massachusetts, breast cancer incidence rates are 12% higher than the national average, which estimates that 1 in 8 U.S. women will develop breast cancer in her lifetime. However, the most commonly cited risk factors - genetic inheritance and lifestyle factors - are present in only 20-30% of breast cancer cases. This leaves 70-80% of cases unexplained. Massachusetts Breast Cancer Coalition (MBCC) is the only breast cancer non-profit working closely with a research, and sister organization Silent Spring Institute to investigate preventable, environmental causes of the disease. This work is funded through annual fundraising events like the upcoming Lesbians & Friends Dance: A Party for Prevention. For more information about the event or to learn about environmental links to breast cancer, visit www.mbcc.org, find MBCC on Facebook, or follow us on Twitter @mbccprevention.
