Dog Saves Jamaica Plain Family From Potential House Fire

The dog's uneasiness led to the discovery of a gas leak.

Jamaica Plain, MA - An astute dog saved a Jamaica Plain family from a potential house fire after alerting them to a mysterious gas leak, WHDH News reports.

Izzy, the Hanzl’s family dog, was inside her cage when she suddenly started to whine. She would not stop, forcing her owner to take her outside.

According to John Hanzl, Izzy never acts up.

As they started down the stairs to go out, Hanzl started to smell gas.

“I started smelling natural gas and it got worse and worse as I was going down,” he told the news station.

Hanzl phoned the fire department, but they could not locate the gas leak. The gas company later responded to the home and discovered a dangerous electrical complication that could have sparked a fire.

Hanzl and his wife are glad Izzy alerted them to the issue. They are in the process of fixing the problem.
