Elizabeth Stone House Announces New Brand Ahead Of New Building
Stone House Residents Are Safe Now. Strong Forever

For nearly 50 years, the Elizabeth Stone House has provided critical, transformative services in the Boston community. What began as a small residential alternative for women with mental health issues has grown into a robust, inclusive, and essential home and community space for adult, child, and family survivors of domestic violence.
Today, as it prepares to open a new facility to serve many more people the non-profit announces a re-branding to Stone House with a new tag line…Safe Now. Strong Forever.
“We have long prided ourselves as a progressive organization that continually evaluates and adapts our services to meet the needs of survivors and our community,” said Nancy Owens Hess, Executive Director, Stone House. “The last several years have been an intense period of reflection and growth. Our current programming has greatly expanded and evolved, while we have simultaneously constructed a new building to house even further expansion.”

The Stone House expected its first residents to move into its new building in Roxbury in January 2021, followed as quickly as possible by other in-person programs. Severe water damage in early January, has delayed this opening until late spring or early summer. This schedule will also be guided by the status of COVID-19.
Knowing they would be moving into a brand new building, the staff and board of the Stone House felt it was the perfect time to update its brand. “We worked to recreate an identity that best represents much of who we already are, our existing values and services, but also one that will carry us into our future, as an ever-evolving, yet steadfast community safe haven,” said Rosa Licea-Mailloux, Board President, Stone House.

Like a Stone House, from the outside the organization offers protection, safety and a sense of well-being. From the inside it offers another level of support - the services, care assistance and personal enrichment to help participants rebuild lives with a future of enduring purpose and hope.
“Our new carefully chosen brand mark is extra meaningful as it is inspired by the original art of Boston artist John Barbour, the father of a Stone House client,” added Owens Hess. “It is a beautiful metaphor for the strength of our work and our families. Together, we will continue to transform lives, strengthen families and better our community.”
“We are grateful to Empower Success Corps (ESC), a non-profit consultant agency that provides a wide range of consulting services to nonprofit organizations at a cost significantly lower than market rates, utilizing established, recognized professionals in their fields who are often retired,” said James May, Director of Development, Stone House. “We were extremely fortunate to have Charlie Conn, who has had a distinguished career working with major companies around the country to create and refine their brands, led our re-branding process as a volunteer with ESC.”
