Grenade Found In JP Basement, Bomb Squad Called In

Fire officials say there's no danger and have given the all clear.

JAMAICA PLAIN, MA —If you saw the helicopters and swarm of police and fire officials near the American Legion in JP Tuesday afternoon, it's because a building owner found a grenade in the basement of the American Legion.

Around 1:31 p.m. police and fire departments were called to 280 South St. in Jamaica Plain at for a possible explosive device. The owner reportedly found it in the basement and brought it outside and called the police. The Boston Police Bomb Squad showed up and were able to confirm the device to be an inert grenade.

With no danger of the grenade exploding, fire and police officers were able to give the all clear about an hour later.
