ICYMI: Photo Gallery: Ralphie, the Kitten Found Frozen to Fence, Goes Home

Ralphie the cat was found in Dorchester with his front paws frozen to the metal wire of a neighborhood fence in early March and was in need of a new home. Now the critter is getting just that.

Boston’s MSPCA-Angell Animal Medical Center announced Monday that Ralphie was adopted by a couple who live in Brighton. The pair preferred to remain anonymous but sent in photos for the update.

Rob Halpin, MSPCA public relations director, said “the adoption applications rolled in to the MSPCA by the hundreds” following the initial Patch coverage.

A man heard Ralphie’s squeals from inside his house on March 7 and used warm water to free the frightened feline’s legs from the metal. He then rushed the kitten, who was hypothermic, to the Jamaica Plain MSPCA center.

“This little guy was extremely lucky to have a kind stranger step in and help because his situation rendered him defenseless against the cold and predators,” said Angell’s Dr. Meagan Rock, who warmed the critter with convection heat and warm water bottles alongside the emergency vet team. “And by the time he got to us his legs were swollen.”

Dr. Rock also administered pain medicine to soothe his sore paws. She took the feline home that evening and looked after him before the Brighton couple took him in.
