Jamaica Plain Resident Joins Veterans at CVS Red Sox Camp

Jamaica Plain, MA – Jamaica Plain resident Charles Beck hit the diamond at Fenway Park on July 1 for a day honoring New England veterans.
Beck, the community relations coordinator for the New England Center and Home for Veterans, had his swing critiqued by Red Sox Hitting Coach Chili Davis and Assistant Hitting Coach Victor Rodriguez, took a few shots at the Green Monster and enjoyed lunch in the Sox dugout alongside 26 veterans at the CVS Health Baseball Camp.

For the past six years, CVS Health and the Boston Red Sox have partnered to host veterans for a day of fun at Fenway Park; participants were from the New England Center and Home for Veterans, a nonprofit organization that works to end homelessness for the nation's veterans, and the 1st Lieutenant Derek Hines Soldiers Assistance Fund, which provides financial assistance for Massachusetts soldiers and families who have sustained career-ending and life-altering injuries while on active duty.

Camp participants were also treated to an exclusive VIP tour of the park and received tickets to the evening's game against the Angels.
“It is an honor to host this event each year for our nation’s heroes,” Eileen Howard Boone, senior vice president of Corporate Social Responsibility & Philanthropy at CVS Health said in a press release. “We are thrilled to offer this experience at America’s favorite ballpark as a small gesture of thanks for their commitment to serving our country. Truly a special day!”
