Jamaica Plain Residents Honored at Boston EMS Awards Banquet
William Clapp and Joseph Lucchetti earned awards for their upstanding work as members of the Boston EMS team.
Two Jamaica Plain residents, William Clapp and Joseph Lucchetti, were honored at the 23rd Annual Boston EMS Awards banquet last Friday.
EMT Clapp was honored with the Lt. George Carter Memorial Leadership Award and a Unit Citation. EMT Clapp has worked for EMS for almost 15 years.
The Lt. George Carter Memorial Leadership Award is named on behalf of Lt. George Carter, who worked for Boston EMS from 1973 until his death in 2000. The Carter Award is presented to any member of the Boston EMS Relief Association who, through the years, consistently demonstrates good judgment and supervisory skill, displays compassion to patients, co-workers and others, and understands what needs to be done and does it, often with a sense of humor. The recipient has the courage of their convictions and serves as a mentor to anyone who seeks one. Their advice and counsel is sought out by other members of the department and is freely given without thought of recompense. The recipient, in general, best exemplifies the character and qualities of Lt. George Carter.

Clapp received a Unit Citation for his heroic work during an incident over the summer. Clapp and EMT Hakim Reid responded to the report of an injury. On arrival, they met a boat that shuttled them out to the boat where the patient was located. They found the patient with a severed artery. EMTs Clapp and Reid were able to staunch the bleeding and stabilize the patient until the boat was towed to the dock, where they met another ambulance and transported the patient to the hospital.
EMT Lucchetti was honored with the 2015 Boston EMS Pride and Professionalism Award.

Lucchetti is assigned to Ambulance 9, one of the busiest in the City, and yet eagerly volunteers for extra calls. His patient assessment skills and verbal reports are excellent and always conducts himself professionally and is even keeled when facing difficult circumstances. He consistently treats both patients and co-workers with respect and kindness, and is always a welcome presence and valuable asset at any EMS incident. Lucchetti is a confident, knowledgeable, dedicated EMS provider and a true consummate professional at all times. For all of these reasons, his peers chose him for the honor.
