JP Story Slam Returns To Doyle's

JAMAICA PLAIN, MA — Have you ever had a Deal Breaker moment? That date that kept snorting when he laughed and then who you caught picking their nose may have been a “Deal Breaker." The dog you didn't want at the shelter, who then looked at you with those incredibly sad eyes and suddenly that moment was a "Deal Breaker” and now he’s your fur-ever pet?

Doyle’s Cafe Story Slam season, full of evenings a la Moth Radio hour and good ole fashioned story telling at the pub on Washington Street is back. The opening theme? You guessed it, Deal Breakers.

On Sept. 17, at 7 p.m. at Doyle's Cafe, JP’s own Robin Golinski (formerly Robin Maxfield) founder of the Boston Comedy Chicks will host the story slam.

All slams at Doyle's will be held on the third Sunday of the month aside from December. Got a story that is almost too unbelievable to be true? Love making people laugh or telling your stories? Come and enjoy some true life 5 minute stories - and a few laughs, with a beer and Doyles classic pub food.

What's a story slam, you say?

A story slam is a contest of stories on a set theme. Anyone can participate you don't have to be a professional story teller to throw your story in the ring. Story tellers or "slammers" sign up on the night of the event to tell a 5-minute short story on the evening’s theme. Ten names are drawn at random and those folks come up and tell their story to the audience. A team of volunteer judges–interested amateurs, storytellers, and members of the audience evaluate how well each story is told and constructed, how well the story explores, connects with the theme in the set the time limit. Highest-scoring tellers are awarded prizes.
