Last Person to Finish Boston Marathon Has Muscular Dystrophy
Mayor Walsh presented Maickel Melamed, of Venezuela, with a medal for completing the event.

Maickel Melamed, who finished the Boston Marathon course in 20 hours, was the last person to cross the finish line. He completed the race around 4 a.m. Tuesday, after battling thunderstorms for the last few miles.
Thirty-nine-year-old Melamed, who suffers from muscular dystrophy, accomplished the 26.2-mile route surrounded by supporters cheering him on and accompanying him along the route. Although he stopped to rest every so often, Melamed completed the 40k.
Mayor Walsh presented Maickel Melamed with a congratulatory medal at City Hall on Tuesday afternoon.

Boston marks the fifth marathon Melamed has completed. He also has Chicago, New York, Berlin and Tokyo runs to his name. Calling it “an honor” to be in Boston, the city holds a special place for Maickel because it’s where his parents brought him as a child for medical treatment.
