Over a hundred people ignored the snow to run a race on Dec. 17 on Jamaica Pond. The newly dubbed Jingle Bell Run 5k circled around Jamaica Pond, but was downgraded to a "fun run," for safety precautions, after snow and rain caused slippery conditions, according to Anthony Loui, Founder of the Boston Road Runners (BRR).

The new group has existed for almost a year, and hosts events in public parks. Loui told Patch the point of the organization is "to get people to run, bring teams and run groups together and create more united community that comes together for races and social events."

BRR was able to raise $5,000.00 in registration fees, and plans to use the funds for non-profit programs an events. Joining the group is free, but there are registration fees for races. The organization hopes to have another run next year. The next run is the Run for Donuts, on Tues. Dec 20, which will take the place of the normal downtown run club meeting and pizza party.
