PHOTOS: What A Dog's X-Ray Looks Like After Swallowing 3 Watches

The X-rays revealed leather straps, buckles, as well as gears and other small parts scattered inside her belly. She's fine.

For a Massachusetts dog whose primary job is to nap, time suddenly was of the essence last week after she chose an odd meal: three watches.

Mocha, a Doberman who lives in Salem with her owners Michele Parkinson and Jeff Courcelle, was brought to the MSPCA-Angell after the pooch chowed down on the watches. The dog had been guiltily hovering over the broken pieces of the watches when her owners discovered what she had done.

X-rays from Mocha’s visit to Angell revealed that she was not a picky eater: leather straps were slurped down just like the grommets.

Dr. Zachary Crouse of the Angell’s Emergency and Critical Care unit performed an endoscopy to see inside the dog’s stomach and removed as much of the material as he could. This allowed Mocha’s body to operate normally. She was able to eliminate the remaining pieces during the course of the next week, according to a recent MSPCA press release.

This isn’t the Doberman’s first rendezvous with trouble. Mocha, a serial object eater, endured a hospital visit last August when she ate a plastic juice container lid. The item caused an intestinal obstruction that required emergency surgery. After this second incident, her owners say they will be more careful with what is accessible to Mocha.

“One thing’s for sure: we’re going to do everything we can to keep anything remotely ingestible out of her reach,” said Michele Parkinson. “It’ll be a challenge—but one that we are committed to!”
