Radiotherapy Helps Cat Bounce Back from Cancer

The seven-year-old cat is battling cancer for the second time.

“Dolce,” a beloved seven-year-old cat, is the latest patient at Angell Animal Medical Center to be treated with advanced radiotherapy.

The MSPCA-Angell website indicates that the treatment, called Intensity-Modulated Radiation Therapy or IMRT, utilizes the shaping of a beam of light around a tumor with such precision that it leaves nearby tissues unharmed. Angell is currently the only veterinary hospital in New England to offer the treatment.

Dolce is being treated by Angell oncologist Dr. Lyndsey Kubicek for a cancerous tumor inside his nasal passageway.

This is Dolce’s second battle with cancer; he lost his right eye to a tumor two years ago.

After treatment concludes, Dolce will be monitored every two months or so for the next year so that Dr. Kubicek and her team can determine if any cancer cells remain or have spread to other parts of his body. They will then determine the best course of treatment.
