Sorella's Space For Sale In Jamaica Plain

JAMAIACA PLAIN, MA — If you know Hyde Square in JP, then you probably know the glory that is Sorrella's breakfast. The rumors are true, at least part of the restaurant is for sale.

The upstairs portion of the restaurant and the three townhouse apartments in the building are for sale for $2.4 million, according to a realtor.com posting.

It's a no frills spot tucked into an apartment building where you might have to wait 30 minutes to get seated on a Sunday. But once you get in and make your way up the front steps, the folks there take care of you with endless cups of diner coffee to go with their pages long breakfast menu that has everything from crepes packed with goodness to juevos rancheros to a long list of cleverly named omelets for less than $11. And the place has character. Many of the menu items posted around the dining room on colorful paper and hand written. The late Mayor Menino was often spotted here dining and chatting with the folks who ate breakfast in this diner.

Sisters Ellie and Toni Elias opened the restaurant in 1983 naming it Sorrella's, which means "sisters" in Italian, and ran it together with family. Ellie told the Jamaica Plain Gazzette in 2013 she'd planned to pass the restaurant along to family so she could retire within the next decade, she passed away in 2015. It's unclear if the family will keep the kitchen and downstairs space situated next door.

The building attached to the upstairs space went on the market in April, but this month the price was just reduced.
