Support Café in the Park Program in JP's Hyde Jackson District
$2,500 goal to win matching grant through Boston Main Streets Foundation

Boston, MA (July 16, 2019) – Hyde Jackson Square Main Street looks to build upon its successful 2018 event series by welcoming an even more vibrant, social Café in Mozart Park prior to their Teatro en el Parque live theater shows in July.
Bridging Communities at Teatro en el Parque aims to bring together both Spanish and non-Spanish speaking communities for engaging, fun evenings in Mozart Park in Jamaica Plain. The free event is built around inspiring and comedic community theater, and incorporates local economic development through food, engaging attendees, and bringing people together from different cultures.
Hyde Jackson is using the Patronicity crowdfunding platform to raise funds for this community program. If the campaign reaches its crowdfunding goal of $2,500 by 11:59pm on July 28, 2019, the project will win a matching grant with funds from the Boston Main Streets Foundation. “We are extremely excited to collaborate again with Escena Latina Teatro to create a unique experience that showcases great community theater, our community, local commerce, and people coming together,” said Gerald Robbins, Executive Director of Hyde Jackson Square Main Street. “Our wish is for attendees to better know their neighbors and their merchants, taste great ethnic food from neighborhood restaurants and enjoy music all while building a stronger and more sustainable local economy along Centre Street in Hyde & Jackson Squares.”
“Last year’s Café en el Parque proved to be not only a wonderfully creative way to celebrate the district’s diverse culture, but also a significant driver of foot traffic to neighborhood businesses,” said Joel Sklar, Chair of the Boston Main Streets Foundation. “We’re proud to support Hyde Jackson Square Main Street in this community-building effort and encourage everyone who loves Jamaica Plain to do the same.”

Teatro en el Parque makes live theater accessible for residents with few opportunities to experience theater in a language and culture that reflect many within the neighborhood. This year’s performance by Escena Latina Teatro – “It is Forbidden to Commit Suicide in the Spring” (Prohibido Suicidarse en Primavera) – will take place on the evenings of July 18, July 19, and July 20. Although performed in Spanish, English language supertitles are projected on a large video monitor so that non-Spanish speakers may also enjoy the play and learn about Spanish theater.
