Thousands of Boston Students Without Seats as School Year Begins
Over 1,700 students who signed up for the city's pre-kindergarten program didn't get a seat this year.

For most Boston students, the 2015-2016 school year began on Tuesday. Thousands of others remain without a classroom seat.
FOX 25 reports over 1,700 students who signed up for the city’s pre-kindergarten program either didn’t get a seat or were placed on a waitlist.
“From first grade to 12th grade we have zero students in the system that are unassigned,” Boston Superintendent Tommy Chang told FOX25. “But we admit we still are lacking a lot of seats in the earliest grade levels.”

According to Chang, Boston is not required to provide pre-kindergarten seats to students of that age grouping.
Chang says limited funding prevents the city from accommodating all families who are seeking a seat.
