Obama, who made his predictions on live television every year since his 2009 office inception, picked Kentucky Wildcats to win it all against Villanova. It will be Wildcats v. Wildcats.
The POTUS has Kentucky beating Arizona and Villanova over Duke in the national semifinals, which are set for April 4-6 in Indianapolis. Then Coach Calipari’s Kentucky crew in blue will bring home the trophy.
Las Vegas oddsmakers are on board with his pick for champion, but the president has a history of choosing overrated No. 1 seed squads.
Last year, President Obama finished in the 72.9 percentile overall, but missed on national champion Connecticut. His best finish since becoming president was in 2011, when he was in the 87.4 percentile despite picking Kansas to win the national title. The Huskies won that year as well.
Obama’s only correct national champion pick was in his rookie year — as president of the United States, that is. The North Carolina Tar Heels won in 2009.
His bracket this year includes several early-round upsets, with some underdogs making a push to the second round. He has 12th-seeded Buffalo beating No. 5 West Virginia in the Midwest and 12th-seeded Wyoming beating No. 5 Northern Iowa in the East. The president also has second-seeded Gonzaga losing in the third round to Iowa State.
