$93 Million Gene Manufacturing Site Opens In Lexington

Thermo Scientific said the new site will create 200 new jobs.

LEXINGTON, MA — Thermo Fisher Scientific opened a brand new facility in Lexington on Wednesday, bringing 200 new jobs with it. The $93 million facility will be used as a clinical and commercial gene therapy manufacturing site at 45 Hartwell Avenue.

A ribbon cutting ceremony on Wednesday featured remarks from Governor Charlie Baker and a celebration of Thermo Fisher's new partnership with Girls Inc. Massachusetts chapters to advance the organization’s STEM programming.

The 50,000-square foot facility is part of the company’s move to accelerate development and commercialization of life-saving gene therapies for its customers. Thermo Fisher has more than 2,500 employees across the Commonwealth and continues to grow its presence. This new site will have approximately 200 employees. According to the company, the investment is part of Thermo Fisher’s $270 million investment in 2019 to expand its capabilities, capacity and talent globally.
