Federal Highway Administration (FHWA) officials recently announced 49 new designations to the America's Byways® collection, including 15 All-American Roads (AAR) and 34 National Scenic Byways (NSB) in 28 states. This increases the number of America's Byways® to 184 in 48 states. The Battle Road Scenic Byway, which passes through Lexington, was one of the 15 AARs.

The byway follows the approximate path of the British regulars during the battles that marked the start of the American Revolution on April 19, 1775—where the “shot heard round the world” was fired. The byway runs along approximately fifteen miles of roads in the communities of Arlington, Lexington, Lincoln, and Concord, including part of the Minute Man National Historical Park.
