Boston Camerata Performs a Holiday Concert by Candlelight

Puer Natus Est is an intimate candlelit glimpse of Christmas spirituality from Medieval Europe

Back by popular demand, Puer Natus Est is an intimate candlelit glimpse of Christmas spirituality from Medieval France, Italy, England, and Provence presented by the Boston Camerata in Boston, Newburyport, and Lexington.

Music of the church and songs of private devotion around the joyous theme of the Nativity are performed by women's voices, medieval harp, vielle, and winds. Included are songs to the Virgin Mary, hymns, processionals from Saint Martial of Limoges, and miracle ballads sung in Latin, Old French, Old Provençal, and Saxon, interlaced with Medieval English texts.

Artistic Director Anne Azéma says of the program, "It is with great joy that we at Camerata present this Christmas offering, in its new configuration, with three women's voices and sparse instrumentation."

By using a combination of intuition, artistry, and historical research, the Boston Camerata, with its many years of experience performing these beautiful works, can do justice to the compelling musical material at hand. The program will feature a trio of women’s voices with Camerata director Anne Azéma, Camila Parias, Deborah Rentz-Moore; Christa Patton playing winds and harp; and Allison Monroe on vielle.
