Feb. 10: Shirim performs rollicking klezmer concert in Lexington

Acclaimed Boston area klezmer band presents exuberant, soulful, and danceable klezmer music in concert for all ages

Renowned klezmer band Shirim performs a concert of soulful and exuberant Eastern Europe klezmer music at the Waldorf School of Lexington, 739 Massachusetts Ave, Lexington, MA, on Sunday, February 10, at 2:00 pm. Tickets are $20/adults, $10/kids and are available at www.shirim.com/schedule-ticket...

Powerful proponents of traditional klezmer, the band is also known for its groundbreaking compositions which have expanded the klezmer vocabulary and ingenious klezmer arrangements of music from the classical repertoire. Their Klezmer Nutcracker, based on Tchaikovsky's famous ballet suite, and "Pincus and the Pig," a collaboration with Maurice Sendak which is a klezmer rewrite of Prokofiev's "Peter and the Wolf," have both been featured at concerts across North America and Europe, while their original compositions have been recorded and performed by bands in the US and Europe.

The band has performed concerts with the Philadelphia Pops, Maurice Sendak (narrating "Pincus"), and NPR's Ellen Kushner, played on the soundtrack of a Woody Allen movie (Deconstructing Harry), performed from Los Angeles to Montreal to Turin (Italy) to a bowling alley in Southern New Hampshire, and played for hundreds of weddings and bar mitzvahs. Shirim has released 7 recordings on the Northeastern, Rykodisc, Newport Classic and Tzadik labels.
