Lexington Football's Playoff Run Begins Friday

The Minutemen have a date with No. 7 Andover on Friday night. Here is what you need to know about the game.

LEXINGTON, MA — The Lexington High School Minutemen football team will take the field this Friday night and embark on what they hope will be a North Division 1 Football championship. The Minutemen have a date with No. 7 ranked Andover at home at 7 p.m.

The Minutemen, lead by quarterback Sal Frelick, have completed an undefeated regular season with a record of 7-0. The Minutemen have played just two two truly close game all season, a nail-biting 28-27 victory victory over Winchester on Oct. 8 and another on Sept. 16 against Concord-Carlisle (35-34). The Winchester game marked the only time that the team was held to under 30 points this season.

Lead by Frelick, the Minutemen are scoring 41.1 points per game. Defense hasn't been too much of a problem for the Minutemen either, as the team has given up more than 30 points just once this season.

Lexington takes on an Andover squad that brings a 3-4 record to town. Andover has broken the 50-point mark twice this season, but is coming off back-to-back losses to Haverhill and Central Catholic.

We can't remember the last time two teams that averaged more than 40 points per game met in a playoff game. Andover is averaging 41.3 points per game.

EJ Perry has thrown 28 touchdown passes this fall for Andover while Lexington's Frelick checks in with 15. Frelick also leads Division 1 in scoring with 14 touchdowns. Unfortunately for Andover, this one will probably come down to defense. The Golden Warriors give up 37 points per game, the worst total for any playoff team.

With a victory over Andover, Lexington will challenge the winner of St. John's Prep and Acton-Boxborough. The North Division 1 bracket is loaded with high-level teams, so if the Minutemen are able to get by Andover, it's anyone's guess as to who they will face next.

Here's a look at the North Division 1 Bracket:

1. Central Catholic (5-1) 19.67

2. Lexington (7-0) 18.00

3. St. John's Prep (5-2) 18.00

4. Haverhill (6-1) 17.29

5. Everett (5-2) 15.71
