Lexington High Pair Among Those Honored at Girls and Women in Sport Day
Emily DeVine and Leah Strohmeyer will be recognized Friday at Faneuil Hall.

LEXINGTON, MA – Two Lexington High School student-athletes will be among those honored Friday during ceremonies at Faneuil Hall for the annual Massachusetts Celebration of Girls and Women in Sport Day.
Emily DeVine and Leah Strohmeyer will head to the 10 a.m. event in Boston for what the Massachusetts Interscholastic Athletic Association calls, "a formal but fun recognition day for high school female athletes and the adults who support and inspire them." This year's theme is "Expanding Opportunity." The event is co-sponsored by the MIAA and the New Agenda: Northeast.
DeVine plays field hockey, ice hockey and lacrosse, and Strohmeyer is on the field hockey and basketball teams.

Gevvie Stone, a Boston-based rower who won a silver medal in the 2016 Summer Olympics in Rio de Janeiro, will be the special guest speaker. Stone trains on the Charles River and combined Olympic training with medical school at Tufts.
In addition to Stone's keynote address, others will be honored.

The four 2017 recipients of the Massachusetts Women in Athletics Distinguished Service Award are Pamela Alvares, teacher, coach and advisor at Bristol County Agricultural High School in Dighton; Bobbie Finn, Athletics Administrative Assistant at Notre Dame of Hingham; Eleanor E. Petrovick, a wellness teacher at Foxboro High School, and Linda Zacchilli, head girls volleyball coach and assistant boys volleyball coach at Milford High School.
The three Girls and Women in Sports Essay Award winners are first place Emily O'Neil of Cardinal Spellman in Brockton; second-place Katherine Arsenault of Oakmont Regional High School in Ashburnham; and third place Mia McDonald of Westfield High School.
Lexington High School's Maddie Lane will sing the national anthem, and Vicki Caburian, a teacher and coach at Lincoln-Sudbury High School, will read the gubernatorial proclamation announcing that announcing that Friday is recognized as Girls and Women in Sport Day in Massachusetts.
