Lexington Police Union Praises Officers From Helped Maple St Fire

"The bravery displayed by these two officers can't be taught," said Officer Christopher Ducharme, President of the LPPA.

LEXINGTON, MA — The Lexington Police Patrolman’s Association is praising the two officers who ran into a burning home to help evacuate the residents inside on Jan. 29.

Lexington Police Officers Andrew Gale and Joseph Sullivan helped evacuate residents and their pets while risking their own lives during the early morning fire on Maple Street on Jan. 29.

"Without regard for their own safety and in order to preserve the life of others, Officers Gale and Sullivan entered the burning home. Thanks to their swift action, along with the resident caller who notified the Lexington Police of the fire, they saved the lives of the two residents as well as their pets," a statement from the association reads.

Both officers were taken to the hospital for smoke inhalation, but the association said they have been released.

Officer Christopher Ducharme, President of the Lexington Police Patrolman’s Association, said, “The bravery displayed by these two officers can’t be taught. Their selfless service under some of the most difficult circumstances showed their devotion to duty, the community, and the high standards set forth by the Lexington Police Department.”

The cause of the fire is still under investigation.
