Lexington Reminds Residents Halloween Is Still On; Safety Tips

The town clarified that Halloween was not cancelled and trick-or-treating will resume as usual at parents discretion.

LEXINGTON, MA — A little wet weather won't get in the way of Lexington kids getting their fill of Halloween fun and candy. The town clarified on Thursday that it was sticking to the trick-or-treating plans for Halloween evening, at parents discretion.

The announcement comes after a gloomy forecast was released and several towns in the state rescheduled trick-or-treating and other Halloween festivities. Lexington is not rescheduling but wants kids to stay safe while heading door-to-door.

The town offered tips from the Center for Disease Control on how to stay safe while trick-or-treating.

The main points for trick-or-treaters included:

  • Wear reflective clothing or carry a flashlight or glow stick so that your parent can find you and so that you're visible to on-coming cars.
  • Stick to the sidewalks and driveways. Try to avoid walking through lawns as there could be tripping hazards you won't see.
  • Wait until you get home to eat your candy, that way your parents can inspect it.
  • If your costume is long, sew it up or tuck it into your socks so you won't trip.
  • Don't wear masks while walking through the street, it'll make it harder to see.
