Open Door Theater brings their captivating production of The Little Mermaid to the Dragonfly Theater at R.J. Grey Junior High, 16 Charter Road in Acton for seven performances, March 29 – April 7, 2019. Based on the beloved Hans Christian Andersen fairy tale and the Disney animated film, the story follows a spirited mermaid who longs to be part of the world above.
“We’re excited to introduce a fresh perspective to this classic story,” says director Brian Kelly of Westborough. “Audiences are in for a real treat with on-stage special effects, bold costumes and sets, and an exceptional cast and crew.”

The cast features over 100 residents of MetroWest, including Casey Monteiro of Sudbury as Ariel, Sarah Kiefer of Concord as Flounder, Brian Cutler of Lexington as King Triton, Drew Ernest of Berlin as Prince Eric, and from Acton: Terri Carotenuto as Chef Louis, Brian Casey as Grimsby and Laurie Penney as Scuttle. Many cast members perform together with their families.
“Our mission is to make our productions as accessible as possible to participants and audiences alike,” says Sam Gould of Boxborough, the president and executive producer of Open Door. “We are an integrated theater company that showcases artists with diversity. In this time when some would build barriers, it is critical that we build bridges and think outside of the box to integrate and include everyone. Arts are a doorway into cross cultural exchange and understanding. Leaving one’s comfort zone can yield extraordinary results. We do this by offering a sensory friendly experience, open captioning, live American Sign Language (ASL) interpretation, and live audio description at our performances.”
