LEXINGTON, MA — Minuteman High School is extending some of its vocational training programs to adults in the community, thanks to a state grant.

Minuteman was awarded $110,000 from the Career Technical Initiative Grant to provide free, 300-hour training programs in carpentry and computer numeric control machine operation through Minuteman Technical Institute, the district’s evening adult workforce education program. The programs will be held at Minuteman from March 1 through June 17 on weekday evenings.

The state Career Technical Initiative is intended to “up-skill” adult students for careers in high-demand, high-growth career sectors with an emphasis on creating pathways for people experiencing barriers to access training.

Minuteman is working closely with MassHire career centers, along with business partners Tecomet, Feinmann, North River Builders, Nova Biomedical, Rolls Royce, Laborers Local Union 560, and the North Atlantic States Regional Council of Carpenters, on the new programming.

“We are thankful for Governor Baker’s ongoing support of post-secondary career technical institutes, which provide adult learners economically viable career pathways to high-demand industries,” said Edward A. Bouquillon, Superintendent-Director of the Minuteman Regional Vocational Technical School District. “As the nation struggles with high unemployment, it is crucially important to continue removing barriers to long-term career growth and sustainability.”
