Have you heard of AFFH? It stands for: Affirmatively Furthering Fair Housing. This rule, proposed by the Obama Administration and canceled by the Trump Administration, allows the Federal Government to take away zoning decision making from local communities. The Democrats are pledged to revive this dangerous regulation which would allow the federal government to ban single family housing districts and change suburban living forever. Let me repeat, this rule allows the Federal Government to take away zoning decision-making from local communities.

What does this mean for Lexington residents? It means the Federal Government can demand Lexington residents eliminate single family zoning. A very scary thought.

Do you remember the effort to build high rise housing off of Grove Street near the Bedford border? Did you know there \was strong resistance to this effort by Lexington residents? This resistance was successful, and now there are very nice single family homes being constructed at this location. However, any future resistance to change our zoning laws will be in vain if the Democrats win the White House.

As a Selectwoman Caroline Colarusso has a record of opposing drastic one size fits all overhauling of our suburbs. Colarusso has seen an erosion of her own suburb of Stoneham as it succumbs to aggressive government overdevelopment initiatives that harm our environment and forever change what used to be known as suburban Boston. Colarusso saw this coming years ago and has been vocal in her opposition. Let’s send a supporter of suburb life to Congress.
