Town Of Lexington Manager Appoints Michael McLean As Interim Police Chief

Following the retirement of Chief Mark Corr, Town Manager Jim Malloy has named Michael McLean, current Captain of Operations, as Interim Police Chief of the Lexington Police Department. McLean has served as Captain of Operations for the Department since 2015. He will serve as Interim Chief while the Town conducts a nationwide search for a permanent replacement.

“I am extremely honored to serve as Interim Chief of the Lexington Police Department,” said Interim Chief McLean. “It is an honor to have the opportunity to lead a department of professional staff who are dedicated to the fair and equitable treatment of everyone in Lexington. We are fortunate to serve a well-informed and engaged community, and I am committed to keeping an open dialogue between the Department and the community,” he added.

“I’m looking forward to working with Interim Chief McLean as we look to the future of the Lexington Police Department,” said Town Manager Jim Malloy. “His extensive experience in policing, and his familiarity with our community, makes him well-qualified to lead the Department,” he added.

About Interim Chief McLean

Interim Chief McLean began his service to Lexington in September 1995 as a Patrol Officer. In 2001, he was promoted to Sergeant, where he served in roles including Patrol Supervisor, Bike Patrol Supervisor, and Detective Sergeant/Court Prosecutor. In 2010, McLean was promoted to Lieutenant, serving as Lieutenant Detective, as well as Detective Bureau Commander.

It was in 2015 that McLean was appointed to his most recent role as Captain of Operations. As Captain, McLean was tasked with overseeing all patrol officers, dispatchers, crossing guards, and traffic unit staff. Additionally, he reviewed all submitted police reports, citations, arrests, and public records requests. He also served as the Department’s liaison to the Town’s Transportation Safety Group, as well as to the Development Review Team.

Interim Chief McLean holds a bachelor’s degree in history from UMass Boston, and a master’s degree in criminal justice from Anna Maria College. He is a graduate of the 258th Session of the FBI’s National Academy. McLean has also taken part in multiple leadership programs, including at the FBI’s Law Enforcement Executive Development Association (LEEDA), and the Municipal Police Institute (MPI). Other training includes the Massachusetts Police Training Council’s (MPTC) Fair and Impartial Policing for Supervisors, the Crisis Intervention Team Training for Police Chiefs, and Police Officer Standards and Training (POST).
