For the Wus of Lexington, Running is a Family Affair
From 80-year-old Florence to 9-year-old Veronica, the Wu family readies for the Run of the Mill Road Race this summer.
LEXINGTON, MA – Running is a family affair for the Wus of Lexington, and the Run of the Mill road race is their reunion. From 80-year-old Florence to 9-year-old Veronica, three generations of the Wu family will lace up for this year's 5K through the Turning Mill neighborhood.
Run of the Mill has become a tradition for a family that loves to compete. Veronica, who came first in her age group last year, aims to surpass her time this year while beating her big sister, 11-year-old Lauren.
Their dad, Curt, 48, is also hoping to crack the half-hour mark. Curt's father and Wu family patriarch, 85-year-old Hong, will head up the cheering section, filled with various cousins and friends.

"This training makes a huge difference, because I know exactly where the hills are, and when I should speed up or take it easy," Veronica and Lauren, who began training this month, said. The sisters also play soccer with the Lexington United Soccer Club.
But the race isn't only about who finishes first. Curt says training for and running the Run of the Mill helps the Wus stay healthy as a family.

"It’s important to model healthy habits for the kids," Curt said. He also supports the run because it gives back to the Estabrook School PTO.
Early registration is encouraged this year for the ninth annual Run of the Mill on Sunday, May 21. Registration is $25 in advance, $30 on race day. The Run of the Mill course begins and ends at the Estabrook School, 117 Grove Street in Lexington.
