Another Route 1 Landmark is Sinking

The Ship Restaurant may be no longer, and we already know what might replace it.

The Ship Restaurant looks like it may go the way of the Hilltop, mini-golf course, and other Route 1 landmarks. The difference is at least the giant cactus and menacing orange dinosaur are still going to be standing.

The owner of the property at 24 Broadway has filed an application with Lynnfield's Zoning Board of Appeals to tear down The Ship (ship and all) and build for food and retail. The new space would include a building with nearly 8,000-square-foot retail space and a 2,500-square-foot drive-thru coffee shop, according to a press release. There would also be an East Boston Savings Bank.

The Christmas Tree Shop will remain where it is.

The website for The Ship currently says it is closed for renovations.

There is a separate development for a nearby condominium project, under a different developer, the release said.
