Carbon Monoxide Detectors Save Lives: Lynnfield Fire Dept.

One family's close call this weekend reminded the department of the importance of functional detectors.

LYNNFIELD, MA — A carbon monoxide scare in a Lynnfield home reminded the family and the fire department how important functional detectors are in homes. On Friday night, a family got back to their Lynnfield home to find all of their carbon monoxide detectors sounding — they called for help immediately.

Fire officials said the levels reported in the home were extremely dangerous. "This family, had they gone to sleep without carbon monoxide alarms, may not have woken up this morning," the department wrote on Facebook.

Using the situation as a cautionary tale, the department stressed that since carbon monoxide is an odorless and colorless gas, it is undetectable unless you have a working alarm. Having functional alarms is important as well as changing the batteries in the alarms every year.
