Happy Mother’s Day To Elaine Feldman Lowey
"She is still the unending listening ear, the voice of reason, the one with a reassuring word."

In celebration of Mother's Day on Sunday May 13, we asked Patch readers to write a letter to their mother and let us deliver it. This is Diane Stumpp's letter to her mom:
My mom is such a gift to me and my sisters. I write her cards and letters all the time but now that she is online and reads the Patch on her iPad, I thought this would be a fun way for her to read what I feel for her this Mother's Day.
I am lucky enough to be able to call my mom every day at 7 a.m. Pacific coast time, 10:00 a.m eastern time. It is the start of my day, and whether we talk about the latest episode of ‘This is Us’ or if she won her mahjong game the day prior, it doesn’t quite matter. I get to visit with her long distance and it is a daily gift.
My mom, an octogenarian, comes out to visit with me and with her West Coast family every January. I am lucky! It is our time!
I wish my mom could see what what my sisters, Denise, Stephanie, Melissa, and I see in her: strength, grace, intelligence, humor, wisdom, beauty and courage. To her, these are just everyday ordinary things. To us, it is unique and daily cause for celebration.
Elaine Feldman Lowey is an embracer of new things, learning how to use an iPad in her mid 80s. She’s stylish, tasteful, positive, patriotic calm and calming. She’s a gardener, a cancer survivor, a caregiver, an avid reader and walker, a baker and a seasoned traveler. She adored and cherished her husband, Hank, for 57 years and made marriage look easy and absolutely beautiful.
She is still the unending listening ear, the voice of reason, the one with a reassuring word. I can imagine that on some days, doing all of this could lead to a giant headache, but we never hear a complaint or harsh word.
You will see Elaine working at the polls in Lynnfield, checking out the latest finds at Lucky Brand stores; retrieving her bagel at Panera on Market Street; checking out the fruit selections at Whole Foods; enjoying a glass or two of Cabernet at Davios or Legal C with one of more of her daughters; challenging me mercilessly at Scrabble; or cheering on the Patriots, while also remaining loyal to her beloved husband, Hank’s, New York Giants.
These are seemingly ordinary things, but to me, each is a beautiful and significant memory with more to be made. Happy Mother’s Day with love, Elaine Feldman Lowey. You are extraordinary!
Love always,
Diane
