Recent Blizzard Depleted Town Snow and Ice Funds
$150K approved to help fund snow and ice budget for rest of winter.

Lynnfield Selectmen approved a DPW request Monday evening for an additional $150,000 in snow and ice removal funds, following last week's blizzard.Â
The town has typically budgeted $120,000 in recent years for snow and ice removal, and the actual cost fluctuates with the snowfall totals. Selectmen approved a similar request for snow and ice funds last winter, although at least one previous winter before that saw the season end with a small surplus.Â
During a budget presentation at the selectmen's meeting, DPW Director Dennis Roy also observed that the town has received more snow at this early point in the winter than it did for some previous winters that had high (and expensive) snowfall totals.Â
The Lynnfield DPW maintains local snowfall totals on its website going back about a decade. The latest storm dropped about 12.5 inches locally, bringing the recorded total snowfall for Lynnfield this winter up to 33.5 inches.Â
