State Trooper Faces OUI Charges After Erratic I-95 Driving: MSP

The 35-year-old trooper was arrested in Lynnfield after drivers reported he was driving erratically on two highways.

LYNNFIELD, MA — An off-duty State Police trooper arrested Saturday night may dodge drunk driving charges as part of a program for those who have served in the military.

Police said Alfred Burgos, 35, faces charges of OUI liquor, negligent operation of a motor vehicle, and marked lanes violation. He was arrested after motorists reported his white SUV was driving erratically on Route 28 and I-95 late Saturday night.

Burgos was to be arraigned Tuesday, but the arraignment was continued to June 20 so he may be evaluated for the VALOR Act Diversion Program, the Essex County DA's Office said. That program allows people who have served in the military and have no prior record or outstanding cases/warrants to avoid arraignment on charges.
