Video: Lynnfield's Chanukah Celebration

Lynnfield's Jewish community celebrated the beginning of Chanukah with ceremony on town common Wednesday evening.

Wednesday's Menorah lighting ceremony at the Old Meeting House was an opportunity for cultures to come together in the spirit of the Holidays. The ceremony was the first of its kind on the Lynnfield Common and was led by Rabbi Shmaya Friedman of Chabad of the North Shore.

In a brief conversation with Lynnfield Patch before the ceremony, the Rabbi said that he had also been working with others to set up Menorah displays in other nearby communities - and that the entire experience had been joyous. When asked what he was thankful for the eve before Thanksgiving, he cited the religious freedoms that Americans enjoy.

In this video, the first candle on the Menorah is lit to mark the opening night of Chanukah. Throughout Chanukah, a different light in the exhibit is automatically lit until the eighth night.
