Habitat For Humanity Building 2 Homes, Townhouse In Malden
The affordable housing site on Main Street will house eight families once the buildings are completed.
MALDEN, MA — Habitat for Humanity is building affordable housing on Main Street in Malden. The organization is building two single-family homes and a six-unit townhouse across from Pine Banks Park with the help of volunteers from Northeast Metropolitan Regional Vocational High School.
Students from the school's Carpentry Career Technical Program will be working at the site until May. They have been volunteering 30 hours per week.
"A sincere thanks to the school, its teachers and students for volunteering their time to bring new affordable housing to the city of Malden," Mayor Gary Christenson said in a statement.

Habitat for Humanity purchased the former problem property from the Malden Redevelopment Authority. A Malden family and Everett family were winners of the single-family homes lottery, and families will be selected for the townhouse via a lottery system.
