5 Mansfield Students Named To Boston Globe All-Scholastic Teams

MANSFIELD, MA — Mansfield capped off a successful winter season win a few accolades from the Boston Globe.

Meg Hill of the girls’ basketball team, boys basketball players Sam Hyland and Johnny McCoy, and gymnasts Lily Goulding and Erin Hurley were named to the Boston Globe All-Scholastic team. Boys’ basketball coach Michael Vaughn was named the Division 1 boys’ basketball coach of the year and Nicole Manna was named the Division 1 girls’ gymnastics coach of the year.

Here’s how the players and coaches earned their awards:

Meg Hill: Led the Hornets to a 20-6 record and finished her career with 1,090 points, 1,064 rebounds and 464 blocks. She won three straight league titles and was named to three straight Hockomock League All-Star teams. Hill will attend Stonehill next year.

Sam Hyland: The Boston College-bound senior was a defensive force and was often charged with guarding the opponents best players.

Johnny McCoy: The Hockomock League MPV will attend the Tilton School in New Hampshire in the fall. He averaged 18.6 points, 7.2 rebounds, and 2.4 steals per game during this year’s state championship campaign.

Lily Goulding: Earned fourth at the state meet and earned a 9.3 on the valut, 9.2 on the beam, and 9.4 on floor exercise at the state meet.

Erin Hurley: Won the uneven bar at the state meet with a score of 9.55, and finished fifth all-around. Won the all-around title at the South Sectional.

Michael Vaughan: Coached the Hornets to a 26-win season and a state title.

Nicole Manna: Coached the gymnastics team to a Hockomock League title and second-place finish at the state meet.
