Copeland Crossing Fire: Mansfield Man Charged

MANSFIELD, MA — A Mansfield man will face charges in connection to a fire at an apartment complex on Route 106.

Christopher Ellis, 35, was due in Attleboro District Court on charges of methamphetamine distribution, possession of methamphetamine, distribution of butane hash oil, reckless endangerment of a child and disturbing the peace, according to the Sun Chronicle. Mansfield Police Chief Ron Sellon said Wednesday morning that charges were forthcoming.

Mansfield Police and Fire responded to a report of a small blaze in Building B at Copeland Crossing. The fire left residents displaced as investigators worked to determine the cause of the fire, that was extinguished quickly.

Reporters at the scene say a burn victim was found and DEA officials were in the area to look at some chemicals found inside the apartment. The burn victim was identified as Ellis. He was taken to Massachusetts General Hospital.

Investigators at the apartment allegedly found a "one-pot" meth lab inside the apartment. A report indicates that drug paraphernalia, including a mason jar with white substance, marijuana plants and hypodermic needles were also in the apartment.

The cause is still under investigation and the Red Cross is assisting displaced residents.
