Coronavirus: Mansfield Schools To Issue Chomebooks To Grades 6-12

Mansfield Public Schools announced a plan on Tuesday to issue laptops for remote learning to students in grades through 12.

MANSFIELD, MA — Mansfield Public Schools is prepared to distribute its school-wide inventory of Chromebooks to students in grades 6 through 12 as part of its plan to provide distance-learning opportunities during the coronavirus pandemic school closures. Mansfield Assistant Superintendent of Schools Michael Connolly said Tuesday the objective is to manage the distribution of the laptops in an orderly manner while maintaining social distancing guidelines.

Those with computers at home that have a microphone and camera are not obligated to get a school-issued laptop.

"We thank you in advance for your patience and cooperation and ask that you use care and practice responsible usage while these devices are in your possession," Connolly said. "When this crisis is over, we will provide instructions for returning the device and charger."

Connolly said the protocol includes:

  • Chromebooks can be picked-up in the large MHS parking lot (not the bus loop). Please look for the white tent near the gym entrance.
  • Follow the directions of the police officers and drive into the parking lot. Stay in the designated lane that will lead you to the white tent.
  • When you reach the tent, you will be asked for your student’s name(s) and will then be handed a chromebook and charger in a plastic bag.

Chromebooks will be distributed at a specific time based on the first letter of your last name.
