Roche told Patch he is still proud of the campaign he ran and thankful to the voters and poll workers.

"This election was tough. The pandemic changed plans and forced a lot of community events to be cancelled, where it would have been great to meet more members of the community. I enjoyed this campaign and I have no regrets making the decision to run," Roche said.

Democrat Brendan Roche challenged incumbent Fred "Jay" Barrows. Barrows is a seven-term incumbent who took office in 2007. Barrows was also one of the Republican incumbents in the House facing a challenger — there are 42 contested House seats and nearly half are Republican incumbents facing a challenge.

Both Barrows and Roche are from Mansfield.

Roche has billed himself as a fresh perspective to the State House, ready to address the challenges of the pandemic faster. Roche told Patch he supports more investment from the state into affordable housing. "In Mansfield alone, there is a 3-year wait to receive a voucher for families. That is unacceptable," Roche told Patch in a candidate profile.

Barrows pointed to his seven terms in office and support for communities with state funding in his campaign bio. Among the funding Barrows has pushed through includes $14 million to the Burrell School renovation, $20 million to Norton High School for their renovations and money to study the conversion of the Mansfield Police Department Building to a Senior Center.
