Garden Club Plant Sale Coming Back to Mansfield

Garden club hosting its 19th sale.

The Garden Club of Mansfield is hosting its 19th annual Plant Sale on Saturday, May 18 at the town hall parking lot.

The gates open at 9 a.m. and go until 12 p.m., but vice president Lea Matthews said early arrivals are encouraged to start lining up around 8:30 a.m. She emphasized no one is allowed in until 9 a.m. exactly. According to Matthews, most plants are gone by 10 a.m., so lining up is very advantageous.

Matthews added that many of the plants come from in town.

The sale will have perennial, annual, shrub, tree, herb, vegetable and ground cover plants. No plants can be held before or during the sale.

The Garden Club, first organized in 1993, helps educate gardeners and maintain public gardens in Mansfield. Matthews said she originally joined to get to know the town better in 1999.

“I was new to town and I wanted to get involved with the community and learn gardening at the same time,” Matthews said. “We have a number of members and we’re getting more and more men joining the club than everybody. It’s all ages now, it’s not just one age bracket and it can be as social as you want it to be.”

She added the company is dedicated to gardening, and are very knowledgeable about gardening.

“It’s a really good group of people,” Matthews said.
