Mansfield Fire Chief Shares Pride In Town Amid Protest

Mansfield Fire Chief Justin Desrosiers said Saturday's protest in town was pointed, yet respectful.

MANSFIELD, MA —Mansfield Fire Chief Justin Desrosiers said Saturday "was a long day, but it leaves me very proud" after the town held a protest following the police killing of George Floyd in Minneapolis last week.

"Proud that the community I serve was able to organize, and execute, a peaceful demonstration that was pointed, yet respectful," Desrosiers posted on social media. "Proud that (Mansfield Police Chief Ron Sellon whom) I work with every day gets it and speaks out honestly about how the traditional policing system is broken, and strives to fix it every day. Proud of the police officers that I work with who are top notch and perform their job with respect for all people. Proud of all of the firefighters and emergency management volunteers who worked, and assisted with the demonstration."

Sellon released a statement last week denouncing the actions of the Minneapolis police officers involved in the killing, and assured residents that his department is "committed to the fair and equal treatment for every person."
