Mansfield Offers American Flag Retirement Drop Box

MANSFIELD, MA — Mansfield residents who put out a new flag for the Fourth of July or Memorial Day this year are asked to retire their old plag properly through the Retired Flag "Mail Box" at Mansfield Town Hall.

The box has been moved to the lower level vestibule at town hall. With Park Row under constructions, retired flags can also be dropped off at the Mansfield Police Department at anytime while access to town hall is limited.

Mansfield Field of Honor is helping operate the box and retiring the flags.

According to Gettysburg Flag Works: "The preferred, and often considered the most dignified, way to retire an American flag is to burn it. ... The action of doing so must be dignified and the flag must be completely burned to ashes."
