The camps will include extensive health protocols due to the coronavirus health crisis.

MANSFIELD, MA — Mansfield is moving forward with plans to kick off its summer camps starting Monday with substantial guidelines in place due to the coronavirus health crisis.

Field trips have been canceled this summer. Campers will maintain appropriate social distancing throughout the camp day.

Campers will be required to check in each morning and assigned to an assistant camp director or head counselor, who will direct campers to be screened each day. Each camper's parent or guardian must sign to attest that his or her child is free of the following symptoms — fever or feeling feverish, sore throat, new cough (not related to chronic condition), new nasal congestion or new runny nose not related to seasonal allergies), muscle aches, new loss of smell or taste, or shortness of breath, gastrointestinal symptoms, fatigue, headache. In addition, they must provide an answer to the question: "In the past 14 days, have you had close contact with a person known to be infected with COVID-19?"

Campers of parents or guardians who decline to complete the screening and temperature checks will not be admitted to camp.

Pre-packaged individual sized snacks will be sold daily after lunch. Exact change is required to purchase snacks. All items are priced in 50-cent increments. Campers are required to bring enough water/juice boxes/drinks for each camp day — there will be no water provided at camp.

BBQ will be offered on Wednesdays and pizza will be offered on Fridays.

Campers are required to bring a backpack daily with an extra face covering labeled with the camper's name, a towel to sit on, a labeled box of crayons or colored pencils and personal hand sanitizer.

A maximum of 10 campers will be allowed in each group that will remain stable each day. The same counselor will be assigned to the same camper each day. Groups will not be combined and staff members are not allowed to float between groups.

Campers will not be allowed to touch others' belongings. Equipment must be wiped down prior to being returned to the shed.

A camper's parent or guardian will be contacted for immediate pick-up of child who develops symptoms during the camp day. The camper will wait for pickup at a designated picnic table located adjacent to the playground with the camp director or assistant camp director. Counselors will actively monitor children throughout the day for symptoms of any kind. Campers who appear ill or are exhibiting signs of illness will be separated from their group.
