Mansfield Students Test Higher Than Average On MCAS Test

Students in the Mansfield School District outdid the state average on the MCAS test in all grades and subjects.

MANSFIELD, MA — Massachusetts has released results of the latest MCAS test, which is used by the state as a guide to measure students' academic performance. In Mansfield School District, students in all grades and subjects scored better than the state average this year.

In math, 78 of percent of 10th-graders in Mansfield School District met or exceeded expectations on the test, compared to the 59-percent state average. In grades three through eight, the district also outdid the state average — 59 percent of Mansfield's students met or exceeded expectations, compared to the 49-percent state average.

In English, 78 percent of Mansfield 10th-graders met or exceeded expectations on the MCAS, compared to state average of 61 percent. In Mansfield's third- through eighth- grade students also outdid the state average. Fifty-nine percent of them met or exceeded expectations, compared to the 52-percent state average.

Students in the Mansfield School District also did better than the state average in science, according to data released Tuesday. Eighty-seven percent of Mansfield's 10th-graders met or exceeded expectations in science this year, compared to the 74-percent state average. And for students in grades five and eight, 54 percent met or exceeded expectations in science, compared the the state average of 48 percent.
