Mansfield Train Station Project Delayed To End Of 2019

It's going to take longer than expected to finish the project.

MANSFIELD, MA — Construction at the Mansfield MBTA station is going to take longer than originally expected, according to Town Manager Kevin Dumas.

The project, which was due to end this December, has been delayed to December 2019, Dumas recently told the selectmen. He told the board that the Federal Transit Administration, which has oversight over construction and egress issues, found an issue with the ramps and determined that as constructed, they were not going to be able to meet the access code.

"What I'm going to try to do is bridge that gap between the MBTA and FTA. We need to get this resolved," Dumas said.

Work on the multi-million dollar project began in 2017 and was expected to take 24 months to complete and is supposed to make the train more accessible for riders with disabilities.

The work has caused some parking spaces to be displaced, leading the town to offer a shuttle from the County Street lot on the Foxborough-Mansfield line.
