Marijuana Business Fees Established By Mansfield Select Board

The town has one license available for a recreational retail facility and another for a growing site.

MANSFIELD, MA — The select board on Wednesday voted unanimously to establish a one-time $3,000 license fee and a $300 application fee for potential marijuana businesses.

The town has one license available for a recreational retail facility and another for a growing site. Having fees in place that can be reviewed by town counsel prior to granting permits for marijuana businesses was a priority, the select board told the Sun Chronicle.

The fees compare with ones other nearby municipalities have set, including North Attleboro, which has the same $3,000 fee, and is lower than the $5,000 licensing fee Wareham established. Town Manager Kevin Dumas told the Sun Chronicle he believes the board's fees are reasonable. Under state law, licensing fees cannot exceed town expenses for permitting recreational marijuana facilities. The select board said it believes those costs will exceed the $3,000.
