Gronkowski was traded to the Tampa Bay Buccaneers in April for a fourth-round draft pick. The trade reunites him with Tom Brady after Brady signed with the Bucs as a free agent this spring.

Gronkowski retired in March 2019 after three Super Bowl championships and a Hall of Fame-worthy nine seasons in New England. He has one year at $10 million left on his contract. He had a brief run in World Wrestling Entertainment before making his decision to come out of retirement and to request the trade to Tampa.
The Patriots hope to begin moving on from the Brady-Gronkowski era starting on July 28 when they are scheduled to welcome new addition Cam Newton to the start of training camp.
