29 Marblehead Cyclists Set To Ride In Pan-Mass Challenge

MARBLEHEAD, MA — Twenty-nine Marblehead cyclists are among the more than 6,000 riders registered for the return of the Pan-Mass Challenge this summer.

The two-day, 211-mile bike-a-thon will be Aug. 7 and Aug. 8 with all funds raised going to the Dana-Farber Cancer Institute.

Last year's event was held "virtually" amid the coronavirus crisis and still raised $50 million.

Over its 41-year history, the Challenge has raised $767 million for cancer research.

"We couldn't be more excited to bring our passionate PMC riders, volunteers, donors and sponsors back together in person for PMC Ride Weekend this year," PMC founder Billy Starr said in a statement. "With fully supported routes and 'Reimagined' options, everyone can customize their PMC experience to join us in the fight against cancer.

"Cancer doesn't stop for anything, even a global pandemic, and funding for research, treatment and care is as critical as ever."

Riders will have 16 different routes to choose from ranging from 25 to 211 miles.

Some spots are still available.

The registered riders from Marblehead are Jake Bennet, James Clifford, Gabrielle Coffman, Max Cushman, Tom Cushman, Dan Evans, Peter Evans, Pamela Evans, Peter Franklin, Stephen Garfield, Andrew Haggard, John Harrison, Moira James, Matthew Kowalsky, Jan Machnik, Catherine Malone, Louis Mayle, Caroline McCarthy, Mark Meyer, Chris Morrissey, Howard Needel, Benjamin Pyburn, Robert Rieckelman, Bob Tavares, Maya Tavares, Kathleen Vander Laan, Dave Weist, Sheryle White Vincent and Bill Willis.
