After Months of Townwide Support, Megan Passes Away

Blue covered Marblehead for months, showing support for Megan Sheehy.

The Marblehead Community Charter School will be open Monday for students grappling with the death of their classmate, Megan Sheehy, over the weekend.

Less than a year ago, the 14-year-old was diagnosed with a rare childhood cancer known as Osteosarcoma. She captured the hearts of town residents during the past few months, with hundreds of blue ribbons popping up at locations all over Marblehead showing support for her. Last month, Sheehy and several close friends had a police-escorted limousine drive to Marblehead Neck ending with a showing of “Pitch Perfect” at Warwick Cinema that was arranged by the Make A Wish Foundation. Hundreds of residents lined the streets as her limousine passed, holding blue balloons and signs of support.

“Although we knew that Megan’s passing was inevitable, the reality of her death is absolutely heartbreaking,” said Nina Cullen-Hamzeh, the Marblehead Community Charter School head of school said in a Facebook post.
